LATINA UGANDA – Day Five – Friday 21st June 2013

June 21, 2013

In the land of discovery, we are yet to experience Pecha Kucha, Oral Presentation Skills and create our personal site- Google sites. Communication is a broad subject however; today we shall focus on Scholarly communication skills given our Academic background.

Gone are the days when scholars would present long and boring presentations. Pecha Kucha solves all those challenges of time management since presenters are usually allocated 20 minutes to disseminate their research findings. Pictures, diagrams and tables can easily drive your point home without lengthy explanations.

When donors or institutions fund activities they expect return on investment that is why we introduce participants to Social Entrepreneurship. There are many free online resources and LATINA emphasizes use of  free web based tools so that participants are able to some up with innovations which can be implemented in their organisations. At individual level, we shall see how participants can use these tools for commercial purposes. After all who wouldn’t want to use his/her digital skills to do business?

Let us see what our participants experience during this session!

LATINA gets interesting day by day. Its very true most of us would want to ‘make money’ out of the skills we get. The very reason we go to school. Below is what Bill gates said and it has always driven my ambitions.

**** ” Information technology and business are becoming inextricably interwoven. I don’t think anybody can talk meaningfully about one without the talking about the other ” -Bill Gates.********

LATINA facilitators/ organizers, thanks for the package.
    Good day to you all.

I totally agree with you Agnes, using our digital skills to make money is a bonus but most importantly improving and even enhancing our oral presentation skills. Oral presentation is a huge challenge especially when it comes to Academic publishing. Pecha Kucha comes as a saviour for us who get nervous when there is so many words to say. Using visual or pictorial presentation is more precise and concise but also relaxing and engages the audience. This will be very helpful in my practice especially in User Education, Information Literacy, Book Exhibitions etc. I am glad to be a part of LATINA Uganda 2013

Hoo…. this topical is so crucial when it comes to advertising the library services and holdings because after creating a site about the library you can just give out the site to different people to visit it during their convenient time to see the different sections in the library, services offered opening hours and so many others
